What actually gets you onto Airbnb's first page
Earned trust, not listing craft.

Guest Favorite +3.1pp
Based on
22,006 listings
Key finding: Earning a Guest Favorite badge is associated with a 3.1 percentage point lift in first-page impressions across 22,006 listings, while title, description, and photo quality show essentially no effect on placement.
The short version
Airbnb ranks the trust you earn, not how well you write. When we modeled what drives first-page placement, the signals that won were all earned-trust signals: Guest Favorite, Superhost, review count, review score, and responsiveness. Content quality did not move ranking. For an operator, that means your climb to page one runs through guest experience and reviews, not through another round of copy edits.
The data
We modeled the drivers of first-page impressions across a large listing sample. The results split cleanly.
Guest Favorite status is associated with a 3.1 percentage point increase in first-page impressions.
Earned-trust signals drove the result: Guest Favorite, Superhost, review count, review score, and responsiveness.
Content-quality signals came back near zero. Title, description, and photo quality did not move ranking.
Sample: 22,006 listings.
Why it works
Airbnb’s job is to send searchers to listings that will book and end in a good stay. Earned-trust signals are the cleanest evidence Airbnb has that a listing delivers, because they are built from real guest behavior over time. A title or a photo tells Airbnb what you claim. A Guest Favorite badge and a wall of strong reviews tell Airbnb what actually happened. So the platform leans on the trust you have earned when it decides who gets seen. Content still matters, but it works on the click, not the placement. Content wins the click, earned trust wins the placement.
What to actually do
Chase the earned-trust signals directly. Protect your review score, grow your review count, and keep your response time fast so you qualify for Superhost and Guest Favorite.
Treat content as a conversion tool, not a ranking tool. Once trust puts you on the page, strong titles and photos are what turn the impression into a click and a booking.
Stop expecting copy rewrites to lift placement. Redirect that effort into the guest experience that produces better reviews.
The honest caveats
This is a correlational finding, not proof of cause. We can say Guest Favorite listings tend to get more first-page impressions, but we cannot prove the badge itself creates the lift rather than the same underlying quality that earns both. The result reflects the 22,006 listings we modeled and the way Airbnb ranked them during the study period. It does not prove that content never matters. It shows that within this sample, content quality did not move placement while earned-trust signals did.
Methodology
We modeled the drivers of first-page impressions across 22,006 listings using IntelliHost and Key Data sources in 2026. We measured each earned-trust and content-quality signal against first-page impression share and compared their effects. Comparisons hold within ZIP code and bedroom count where relevant, so listings are judged against genuinely similar neighbors rather than across different markets and sizes.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Guest Favorite badge really help my Airbnb ranking?
In our study, Guest Favorite status was associated with a 3.1 percentage point lift in first-page impressions across 22,006 listings. The relationship is correlational, but it was one of the clearest earned-trust signals in the model.
Do better titles and photos get me onto Airbnb’s first page?
Not in this data. Title, description, and photo quality all came back near zero for placement. They help win the click once you are already on the page, but they did not move ranking.
What actually gets a listing onto Airbnb’s first page?
Earned-trust signals: Guest Favorite, Superhost, review count, review score, and responsiveness. Airbnb ranks the trust you earn from real guests, not how well your listing is written.
